Q I heard hot bathing helps with weight loss. How is it done? Is it different from half-body bathing?
A Hot bathing means soaking up to your neck until your face sweats, which is different from half-body bathing or sauna. It promotes elimination of waste and body water through skin sweat glands and boosts blood circulation to help weight loss.
Detailed Answer
Fill the tub with water at about 40-42°C, soak up to your neck, and hold for 15-20 minutes until sweat forms on your face. Doing it 7 times a week is ideal, with at least 3 times a week recommended. Half-body bathing and sauna stimulate sweat glands differently, so they are not allowed in the Dongjedang program, and you should also avoid scrubbing off dead skin or applying moisturizer right after bathing.
Our Korean Medicine Clinic's Perspective
In Korean medicine, inducing sweat is an important treatment method for cleansing waste from the skin surface. Consistently combining hot bathing lets the metabolism-boosting effect of constitution-matched herbal medicine work even more efficiently alongside improved skin circulation.
