Q I'm 6 months postpartum, weight just won't come off, I'm unusually tired, and I feel cold a lot. Could there be another problem?
A If extreme fatigue, feeling cold, and weight stagnation are present together after delivery, there may be a postpartum thyroid abnormality that needs checking. We recommend checking thyroid function with a blood test before care.
Detailed Answer
In the months after delivery, thyroid function sometimes undergoes temporary changes (postpartum thyroiditis). When thyroid function drops, metabolism slows, making weight hard to lose, and severe fatigue, feeling cold, swelling, and depression can appear. If these symptoms overlap, weight loss may be difficult no matter how you manage, so it is safer to first get a thyroid function blood test at a hospital to identify the cause. Once the cause is clear, it can be approached accordingly.
Our Korean Medicine Clinic's Perspective
At Dongjedang, when weight loss is unusually difficult, we also look at whether there is another cause inside the body. If a problem such as a thyroid abnormality is suspected, we first recommend confirming it with a test, and after this part is sorted out, we safely proceed with care that supports recovery, clears what is stagnant, and revives metabolism.
