Q I have high blood pressure. Is it okay to take a fatigue tonic?
A If you have high blood pressure, the dosage of ginseng may need to be adjusted. Please be sure to tell us your current blood pressure readings and any medications you're taking during the consultation — we can safely adjust the prescription based on your condition.
Detailed Answer
The general rule for patients with high blood pressure is not to use high doses of ginseng. If your blood pressure is well controlled, we can adjust the ginseng dosage or substitute other Qi-tonifying herbs instead. If your blood pressure is unstable or your medication has recently changed, it's safer to prescribe after your condition stabilizes.
