#Treatment Stages

Q How is wart treatment performed in Korean traditional medicine? I would like to know the order in which treatment is received.

A Dongjedang’s Korean traditional medicine treatment for warts consists of three stages: initial constitutional diagnosis → prescription of internal herbal medicine → combined external treatment. External treatments utilize the application of castor oil, washing with a decoction of Coix seeds, and acupuncture stimulation. Depending on the size of the lesion and the immune status, the decision to combine Western medical treatments, such as cryotherapy, is made together.

Detailed Answer

Dongjedang Korean Medicine Clinic Wart Treatment Stages:

  1. Stage 1 — Initial Diagnosis (Constitutional Diagnosis in Physiognomy): Confirmation of wart location, number, and type + Constitutional classification (Blood Deficiency Type, Qi Stagnation Type, Damp-Heat Type). Assessment of the body's Qi and blood status through tongue, pulse, and abdominal palpation. Consultation with a dermatologist is recommended if necessary to differentiate wart types. Step 2 — Oral Herbal Medicine Prescription: The prescription varies according to constitution. Blood Deficiency Type → Herbal medicine to nourish blood + Coix Seed; Qi Qi Type (Stress) → Herbal medicine to gently relieve liver qi + Herbal medicine to dissipate wind-heat; Damp-Heat Type → Herbal medicine to relieve heat toxins and detoxify + Honeysuckle. Evaluate efficacy after a basic 3-month course of treatment. Step 3 — Concurrent External Treatment: ① Application of Castor Oil Seeds — Direct application to the wart surface for keratolytic and cytotoxic effects; ② Washing with a decoction of Coix Seeds — Anti-inflammatory and immune stimulation; ③ Acupuncture Stimulation — Improvement of local circulation through needling around the lesion. If the lesions are large or numerous, combine with cryotherapy
  2. Step 4 — Follow-up and Prevention of Recurrence: Observe for 3 months after the end of treatment. Resume prescription immediately if signs of recurrence are detected

Korean Medicine Clinic Perspective

From the perspective of Physiognomy, warts are not merely skin lesions but an expression of Qi and blood imbalance. If only the lesions are removed without constitutional improvement, recurrence is inevitable. At Dongjedang, we aim for a complete cure without recurrence by simultaneously proceeding with lesion removal (external treatment) and constitutional improvement (internal)__
