Hwa-byung

Korean medicine treatment for Hwabyung consists of three main stages. Stage 1 (1–2 months, Soothing the liver and clearing heat): This stage resolves liver qi stagnation and lowers accumulated heat to rapidly alleviate chest heat sensations, rising sensations, and palpitations. The core elements are modified herbal formulas designed to release liver energy and acupuncture treatment (on the instep and inner wrist). Stage 2 (2–4 months, Nourishing Yin and tonifying the kidneys): This stage strengthens the fundamental constitution by replenishing the Yin fluids and kidney essence depleted by anger. It involves transitioning to rehmannia and ophiopogon japonicus lineages. Stage 3 (Maintenance): Concludes by reducing the intensity of the prescription along with emotional management skills training to prevent recurrence.
