Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss

Traditional Korean medicine treatment for sudden hearing loss is designed in three main stages. First, in the Cheongsang stage, heat and pressure that have surged to the head due to stress and overwork are lowered to relieve tension in the blood vessels of the inner ear. Second, in the Hwalhyeolhwaeo stage, blood stasis is removed and inner ear capillary circulation is restored. Third, in the Bosin stage, herbal prescriptions designed to replenish energy and clear the ears and eyes reinforce kidney deficiency, thereby strengthening the recovery environment for the auditory nerve and cochlea. Dongjedang combines these three stages either concurrently or sequentially, tailored to the patient's recovery speed and constitution. Acupuncture is added to acupoints around the ear (anterior, posterior, and wrist areas) to revitalize local blood flow, and if necessary, craniosacral manipulation is used to open circulatory pathways in the skull and cervical spine. We prioritize the formulation of herbal medicine that minimizes digestive burden, especially when combined with Western steroid treatment.
