#Drug Combination / Interactions

Q I'm taking an antispasmodic and stomach medicine from internal medicine. Is it okay to take herbal medicine alongside them?

A It's fine to take them together if you space them out. We usually advise taking herbal and Western medicine about 1–2 hours apart, and as cramps decrease, we gradually reduce the Western medicine.

Detailed Answer

There's no need to suddenly stop the antispasmodic or stomach medicine you're taking. Taking herbal and Western medicine about 1–2 hours apart causes little interference with absorption. As treatment progresses and cramps stabilize, we adjust so the Western medicine can be reduced step by step without strain.

Korean Medicine Clinic Perspective

If you tell us at the consultation what medicines you're taking, we adjust the herbal composition and dosing times accordingly. Dongjedang manages safe combined use and gradual tapering together.
