Q I heard I should get an IgG food intolerance test—is it reliable?

A IgG testing only shows that you have been exposed to certain foods, not that they are causing your current symptoms. It is not a standard medical diagnostic tool. A food diary, a 2–4 week elimination diet, and a hydrogen breath test are the currently recommended diagnostic methods.

Detailed Answer

IgG antibodies can be produced naturally in response to foods you eat frequently, so a positive test result does not necessarily indicate intolerance. International gastroenterology and allergy societies do not recognize IgG testing as a standard diagnostic tool for food intolerance.

Korean Medicine Clinic Perspective

In Korean medicine consultation, the state of spleen-stomach function is assessed directly through pulse diagnosis, inquiry, and abdominal palpation, and trigger foods are identified together based on a food diary. It is more accurate to read the actual reaction patterns and constitution together rather than relying solely on test results.
