Q Are there cases where I should absolutely not take Haedokhwan?

A Pregnant women, underweight individuals or those with severe anemia, and people with acute enteritis or right after intestinal surgery should not take it. If you have a chronic illness or are taking multiple medications, this must be discussed beforehand.

Detailed Answer

Haedokhwan's strong eliminative action can be a burden for those whose physical strength is already significantly depleted. It is strictly contraindicated in pregnancy due to the risk of uterine contraction, and caution is required for underweight individuals (BMI under 18.5) or those with severe anemia due to the risk of further physical depletion.

Our Korean Medicine Clinic's Perspective

Detox works best when the body has some reserve capacity. Attempting strong elimination when energy is already too depleted can actually cause further weakness. In such cases, we first recommend lowering detox intensity by focusing on Gamnosu instead of Haedokhwan.
